Lire et faire lire

The pleasure of reading for children with senior volunteers. Lire et faire lire is a province-wide program. Yet, it is incredibly simple. Once a week during the school year, seniors volunteer to meet small groups of children using an approach that focuses on the pleasure of reading and intergenerational exchange. Specifically, the program recruits volunteers aged 50 or over to visit elementary schools and other locations to read to small groups of two to five children. The organization has a single catchphrase: PLEASURE—the pleasure of being told a story, the pleasure of reading, the pleasure of conversing and of building relationships.
Marie-Uguay Library coordinates this program and needs volunteers on a regular basis.

Curio Cabinet

It was in the context of the construction of the new Marie-Uguay Library building that the display case project was created. The designers gave the building its own identity by showcasing the history and the attachment of the residents to their region through the optimal use of materials such as wood and stone. The installation of large display cases that are incorporated perfectly into the building and that can house artistic and ethnological exhibits was a logical extension of that desire for identity. The museum and the library signed an agreement for the design and production of three exhibits a year on themes related to the heritage and history of Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot. The Centre d’histoire La Presqu’île has provided its expertise to interpret the old map displayed in one of the display cases. This innovative cultural partnership among three of the region’s cultural institutions enables each institution to expand its target audience, increase the reach of its activities, foster the emergence of cultural activities and position itself as a regional cultural development organization.
