A word from the mayor

Dear residents,

In August, we continued our tour of the parks and, thanks to the good weather, were able to hold our meeting at Parc des Mésanges, right in the middle of the early-evening activity at this beautiful site. Thank you to everyone who came to meet with us before a soccer or pickleball game. Starting in September, our monthly sessions will return to Carrefour Notre-Dame.

As part of the work to connect the new water mains on 100th Avenue and 101st Avenue, included in the rehabilitation project for these avenues, which were badly in need of repair, an issue involving a fire hydrant led to an unexpected interruption of the water supply on several streets in Pointe-du-Moulin. In accordance with our usual procedure, the relevant information was quickly communicated to the affected residents through ComAlerte and shared on our website, social media and electronic message boards. I would like to take this opportunity, despite the unfortunate circumstances, to remind you that the best way to be notified quickly of emergency measures is to register for ComAlerte. Unfortunately, many people in this area were not registered for the service and were not informed of the situation as quickly as they could have been by phone, text message or email, according to their preferences. I therefore encourage you to take a few minutes to register or to check that your contact information is up to date.

Still on the subject of emergency preparedness, I would also like to remind you of the importance of having a 72-hour emergency kit at home, including enough water and supplies to remain self-sufficient for three days in the event of an emergency. Of course, the City will always be there to support you depending on the situation, but with proper preparation, you will be able to respond quickly to your own needs and allow our emergency teams to focus their efforts on those who are more directly affected. For more information about 72-hour emergency kits, visit the Emergency Kit and an Household Evacuation Plan page.

Several residents have shared their concerns with us about the noise associated with pickleball activities at Parc des Mésanges. We are listening, and we have begun installing a screen designed to reduce the spread of noise. Until it is in place, the hours of use for the courts will be temporarily reduced to limit the inconvenience for residents in the area. This interim measure will allow us to act quickly while continuing with the installation of the screen and assessing its effectiveness. We will continue to monitor the situation closely in order to find the best balance between this activity, which is enjoyed by many, and the peace and quiet of the neighbourhood.

I hope you are making the most of the summer. Our summer schedule of activities and performances continues until the end of August, and I look forward to seeing you at the next edition of the Festival de la soupe, which will take place on Sunday, September 13, at the Parc historique de la Pointe-du-Moulin.
