A word from the mayor

Dear residents,

First, I would like to congratulate the teams and volunteers for another wonderful edition of Plaisirs d'hiver, which took place on Saturday, February 7, at Des Éperviers Park. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this year, but I was told that the event was very enjoyable despite the cold weather.

At the February meeting, we made a few changes to our service fee policy, including the elimination of late fees at the library. This measure, already in place in several other municipalities, eliminates a source of irritation for some users and avoids a considerable number of small-amount transactions for library employees. Of course, we encourage users to return their books on time to promote access to the collection for all. Courtesy notices will continue to be sent to remind you of the due date for your book loans. If a book is not returned, the library will still send a bill to replace the book and ensure that the collection remains rich and diverse.

We have also submitted the Plan d'action à l'égard des personnes handicapées (Action Plan for Persons with Disabilities), an important document that is the result of the work of several municipal departments and our councilor Bruno Roy. All cities and municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants in Quebec are required to develop this type of action plan. In Notre-Dame, we have developed an action plan that promotes very humane measures, at our level, and that will hopefully meet the specific needs of our residents who live with certain limitations. The action plan focuses on the physical aspects of accessibility, such as ramps and buildings, access to activities through support for elite local para-athletes, and the safety of people with reduced mobility in emergency situations. A registry will be set up to inform first responders and emergency teams about people who may have special needs. By focusing on the universal accessibility of our services and facilities, we are ensuring that all residents can make the most of the exceptional living environment that is Notre-Dame-de-l'Île-Perrot. If you have any suggestions that could improve accessibility in NDIP, please contact me or your councilor.

Warmer, sunnier days seem to be on the horizon, which will certainly do us all a world of good.

Have a great end to winter, everyone!
