Dear perrotdamoises and perrotdamois,
The spring season will bring
new things to Notre-Dame-de-L’Ile-Perrot.
As soon as the weather improves, work will begin
for the development of a segment of the bicycle
path along the Saint-Joseph Nord Boulevard.
Many local citizens were asking for bicycle
paths on our territory. We met your expectations.
Furthermore, more segments will be added in
the years to come and our paths will be linked
to other paths in other cities to the great
satisfaction of the cyclists. Work will soon
begin work on the expansion of the Don-Quichotte
Boulevard and we anticipate to add a bicycle
path that will join the Saint-Joseph Nord Boulevard.
In the last edition of this newsletter, I spoke
to you about city council’s intention
to “Go Green” and support related
projects.

Not only environmentally friendly projects
but projects that would improve the quality of life
of our citizens. It is by taking into consideration
these two changes that we will set up a public transit
system to serve the citizens of our city. After conducting
a survey, we decided to put in place two bus routes
that will run from the months of May to September. We
will then evaluate the number of users and make changes
if appropriate according to the needs of the public
transit users.
Many are worrying about the fate of the Parc historique
de la Pointe-du-Moulin (Pointe-du-Moulin historic Park).
There have been rumours that the park would close its
doors. These rumours are unfounded. The Park will remain
open. However, the current park administrators would
like to drop the animation portion which means not having
a host to greet visitors at the park and explain the
operation of the mill and its history. We want to keep
this part of animation that makes its reputation an
enviable one. We are currently examining solutions with
the Société de développement des
entreprises culturelles (SODEC)
(Society for the development of cultural businesses)
that is responsible for its administration. We hope
to arrive at an interesting solution. One thing is certain,
this park will not close. I hope that I have succeeded
in putting an end to rumours of park closure.
Another project that is growing faster
than anticipated is the construction of a multi functional
complex in our city that would include and arena with
a skating rink. A private developer approached the city
to promote this project. This consultation process will
allow us to establish our priorities and establish a
master plan that will guide our decisions regarding
the development of leisure for the city.
Many other projects are in the making.
Training of volunteers is important before getting involved
in an activity. We are now looking for the best piece
of land available for the construction of a fire hall.
In cooperation with the MRC (Regional municipality des
collines), we will set up in the coming months the 311
telephone service to enable citizens to have access
to municipal services at all times in case of emergency.
This service will reduce the number of calls to the
911 service which is strictly for medical emergencies.
I hope you had a great winter and took
advantage of the amount of snow to have fun. Spring
is here with its road work and development which is
necessary. Many are concerned about the work on the
Pont Galipeau (Galipeau Bridge) which makes it difficult
for entering and leaving Ile-Perrot and Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.
With the MTQ (Quebec department of transport) and the
other municipalities on Ile-Perrot, we are working on
different scenarios to minimize the inconveniences resulting
for this important construction work for the safety
of all its users,
Yours sincerely,
Serge Roy, mayor
