Created in 1982, the Municipalité Régional de Comté (MRC) de Vaudreuil-Soulanges merges 23 municipalities spanning a territory of 855.73 km² and representing a population de 105 407 people.
The MRC therefore constitutes an organizational structure which permits the municipalities to design the layout of their territories regionally and to plan their development on a larger scale, while paying attention to the eventual implications of their actions on the totality of their territories.
The MRC has a Council with a fixed structure and function. It is composed of the mayor of each of the member municipalities. The council is headed by a prefect elected for a mandate of two years. He is chosen from among the mayors. He presides over the MRC council meetings.
The MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges outlines various regional projects divers such as property evaluation, the regional municipal court, urban planning, public security and fire prevention, and the management of residential matters.
