New fire engine for the Île-Perrot Fire Department
A 2010 E-ONE brand fire engine has been in service since last July 15th, within the territories of Île-Perrot and Notre-Dame-de-l’Île-Perrot. Its 800 gallon water reservoir and 1250 gpm pumping capacity will allow for an increase of the volume of water used to put out fires that arise in sectors without a fire hydrant. Furthermore, thanks to this new truck’s set of characteristics and modern equipment, the efficiency of fire interventions and the safety of the firefighters will surely improve.

Have you checked your smoke detectors?
The Fire Department reminds you to replace the battery in your smoke detector twice (2) per year; preferably at each daylight savings time change.
Installation of smoke detectors
A smoke detector must be installed on every floor that has bedrooms, including the basement.
Maintenance of smoke detectors
- Check the detectors every month by pressing on the test button for a few seconds, or by following the manufacturer’s instructions. The alarm should sound in the seconds that follow.
- Never paint over your smoke detectors.
- Replace your smoke detectors every ten (10) years.
Fire hydrants
- Parking in front of fire hydrants is prohibited.
- The fire hydrants must be easily accessible at all times. A space of one meter must be maintained around the fire hydrant, and it is forbidden to throw snow into, or install a fence or hedge within this space.
- For those citizens who clear the snow around the fire hydrant on their property, the Fire Department would like to extend a big thank-you.
Propane gas (BBQ)
Always store propane gas tanks outside of buildings.
Fireplaces and stoves
The safety and efficiency of wood heating essentially rests on good planning, careful installation and appropriate functioning. We are offering free guides on wood heating at the Department of Territory Management. This guide aims to help you to successfully plan the installation and to use your wood heating system in the safest and most efficient way possible.
Chimney sweeping and Chimneysweepers
Chimneys of slow-burning fireplaces and stoves should be swept and inspected according to the quantity and the type of wood burnt. We recommend that you clean and inspect these chimneys at least twice a year, and that you inspect and clean all other types of chimneys on an annual basis. Only chimneysweepers certified by L'Association des professionnels du chauffage should proceed with the sweeping and the inspection of your chimney. To obtain the most recent list of certified chimneysweepers in the region, please consult the yellow pages under the ‘’chimneys’’ rubric.
Cords of wood
We recommend that the amount of stored wood does not surpass the equivalent of your annual consumption, if your storage space allows for it without risk.
Central heating systems
Maintain a safe distance between all combustible materials and the furnace. Electrical panel Leave a space of at least one meter in front of the electrical panel.
